Faculty Associate Desmond Patton, along with coauthors Thomas Abt and Joseph Richardson Jr., argues that most community violence organizations lack the expertise needed to monitor and address social media-fueled violence. The path forward, the authors suggest, requires coordination among stakeholders: "That means implementing community-led virtual intervention roles, developing ethical early warning systems centered on de-escalation, and instituting clear standards for interpreting online content that distinguish credible threats from protected expression."
