Temp Community Manager (PT), Frankly
The Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University seeks a part-time, term-limited Community Manager through December 2026. This role will help prepare the Frankly program (frankly.org) for its next phase including a potential spin-off as an independent organization. The Community Manager will oversee Frankly's community-building initiatives, technical collaborations, and user support with key external collaborators with secondary support on fundraising and communications. The role reports to Frankly’s Product Manager and will operate with considerable autonomy within a team of engineers and established priorities including fulfillment of pilot instances with participating organizations, activation of Frankly’s beta instances with multiple institutions, and ownership of frontline user support for existing users.
The Community Manager will join the Berkman Klein Center’s world-class community of scholars and practitioners, and work in close collaboration with the Center’s team of staff, fellows, and faculty to advance a range of interdisciplinary, cutting-edge programs and research related to the study and development of Internet & society. Job-Specific Responsibilities:
As a Community Manager you will:
- Manage existing collaborations by pro-actively communicating with Frankly’s active pilots, beta organizations, and inbound partners to help them establish and troubleshoot Frankly instances within their organizations; identify, scope, and onboard new institutional relationships in cooperation with program faculty and leadership; assist with other strategic relationships in the US and internationally.
- Serve as a key point of contact for Frankly to prospective users, scholars, policy-makers and other stakeholders.
- Oversee the training and documentation, onboarding and launch preparation, and partnership facilitation for grant-funded, time-bound pilots; manage connections between pilot organizations and complementary analytical partners (Cortico, Jigsaw Sensemaker, Talk to the City) to meet their evaluation needs.
- Provide consistent support to enable organizations to run Frankly sessions independently including onboarding, training sessions, QA run-throughs and direct guidance; own the connections between partners and other Frankly personnel to solve technical and programmatic problems. Proactively identify and address institutional challenges with Frankly’s use.
- Develop various written products including grant reports, fundraising proposals, data-supported pilot assessments; track grant and other funding opportunities in coordination with BKC administrators; work closely with BKC Communications staff to highlight program and partner successes, milestones, and public updates and data.
- Experiment with innovative tools and methodologies to enhance engagement in workshops and convenings, leveraging both BKC technologies and external resources. Research and prepare briefing and background materials for educational program sessions, meetings, and events; may supervise events, workshops, and demos as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and at least 5 years related experience.

- Motivated to thrive in a committed, collaborative community that encourages creativity and supports deep inquiry – and pursue “cold” connections with potential collaborators and partners.
- Organizational and practical work experience for non-governmental or academic organizations a plus.
Working Conditions:
This position may be performed in-person or remotely from Massachusetts or another of the states in which Harvard can register employees.
Additional Information:
This is a term appointment expected to extend through December 18, 2026 (due to staff holiday break), subject to departmental funding and need. This role will offer hourly rated competitive compensation based in part on skills and experience. No benefits are included with this position. The maximum hours per week for this position will be 14 hours.
