Jie Qi is an affiliate of the Berkman Klein Center focusing on supporting open approaches to invention and entrepreneurship.

During her 2017-2018 Fellowship at the Berkman Klein Center, Jie began openinventors.org, a website of stories and comics about patent law. Having personally encountered several patent-related challenges as a student researcher and entrepreneur, Jie hopes to share her own experiences -- and those of other inventors-- to help students, makers and independent inventors navigate patent issues as they share their creations with the world.

Jie is cofounder and creative director of Chibitronics, an open source hardware company that makes educational toolkits that blend paper craft, circuit building and programming. She is also a research affiliate of the MIT Media Lab, where she works with the Lifelong Kindergarten Group to help design tools that blend physical tinkering through hardware and digital tinkering through code. Jie holds a BS in mechanical engineering from Columbia University and a masters and PhD in media arts and sciences from MIT.
