DZ Kalman works at the intersection of religion and technology, studying how religious traditions can provide moral framework for fast-moving technological developments. 

He also leads efforts to develop Jewish responses to emergent technologies and build the academic field of Jewish technoculture. DZ serves as a research fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute, where he leads a research group on Judaism and Artificial Intelligence. He is senior advisor at Sinai & Synapses, assisting in developing Jewish pedagogical responses to technological development. He hosts Belief in the Future, a podcast about religion and technology. His PhD from the University of Pennsylvania was one of the first sustained studies of how Jewish history and the history of technology intersect. He is a member of AI and Faith and has taught for Gratz College, the Academy for Jewish Religion, and many other institutions. He also serves as Advisor on Scholarly Projects for Shefa: Psychedelic Jewish Support. He writes at Jello Menorah.
