Faculty Associate Ethan Zuckerman and Ryan McGrady argue that platforms like YouTube functional as accidental cultural archives "through [their] accumulation of a vast quantity of audiovisual materials by and about humans," comparing these archives to a set of late-20th-century photographs and the ruins of Pompeii.
