Law enforcement agencies are facing bans on facial recognition systems, but restrictions for schools and private businesses remain to be seen.

Mutale Nknonde says that a federal facial recognition ban – regardless if it’s for law enforcement agencies or private companies – is unlikely.  “From a federal perspective, anything that seems to undermine business or innovation is not going to be favored,” she says.
