Vicky Charisi is a research scientist with a focus on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on children’s learning and development. With her research, she supports policymaking in AI and social robots and advocates for technical developments that align with children’s rights.
For the last six years, she worked at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, focusing on Science for Policy for AI and children’s rights. She has conducted field studies and speculative design workshops with children in Europe, the United States, Asia, and Africa. She has contributed to different projects in collaboration with various United Nations agencies such as UNICEF, UNICRI, and ITU, and with leading tech companies such as the Honda Research Institute in Japan. As a BKC fellow, she will explore how AI can transform educational programs focusing on global citizenship education for students in K12 from a research, policy, and industry perspective while considering children's rights in the design, implementation, and use of AI for educational purposes.
