Gilad Mills is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law at Bar Ilan University, where his research and teaching focus on legal theory and the regulation of digital technology, with a particular emphasis on private law frameworks.

Gilad holds an LL.B. and a B.A. in Law and Economics from Tel Aviv University, and an S.J.D. from Harvard Law School. Gilad’s research to date has examined how core private law doctrines—in fields like tort and contract law, remedies, and legal procedure—can be adapted to address challenges posed by digital technologies. His work explores the advantages and limitations of these frameworks as compared to approaches based on direct regulatory intervention, offering an institutional perspective on legal governance in the digital age. At the Berkman Klein Center, his research will focus on the impact of emerging digital technologies on individual rights and democratic resilience, with particular attention to rethinking prevailing approaches to freedom of expression, data governance, and the protection of minors online. In addition to his academic work, Gilad has gained substantial experience as a legal practitioner, representing several international corporations in class action litigation involving torts, contracts, consumer protection, and privacy. He also served as a law clerk at the Supreme Court of Israel, gained experience in arbitration, and worked for several years as a cyber security analyst.
