Faculty Associate Petra Molnar details the surveillance culture of Kashmir, "where checkpoints and patrols are increasingly supplemented by biometric systems, networked CCTV, telecommunications controls, and expansive data governance framework." Molnar's interview with Shakeen Ahmed, a pseudonymous journalist living and working in the country, is published in Tech Policy Press. Ahmed remarks: "There must be proper mechanisms for journalists or civilians to challenge this massive, unlawful surveillance apparatus. This is my hope, but I am not optimistic that it will ever see the light of day."
