Reading Groups

Reading groups are discussion-based groups that explore the intersection of technology, society, and policy. Groups are open to students from all Harvard schools, regardless of academic interest or prior experience.

Program Overview

  • Schedule: The meeting time depends on the facilitator. Most reading groups meet during lunch (12:30-1:30 pm) or in the late afternoon, between 3:00 and 5:00 pm.
  • Topics: Topics change each semester. In the past, groups have explored Generative AI, Copyright, and Creativity with Chris Bavitz, Humanity at Scale with Rebecca Tushnet, and a TechReg reading group hosted by Affiliate Alan Raul and HLS Beyond, which covered current policy developments.
  • Commitment: There are two options—application-based cohorts for those who prefer a consistent group, and drop-in sessions for students interested in specific topics. Most reading groups last two to four weeks, depending on the subject.
  • Eligibility: Open to actively enrolled Harvard students at any level. Priority is given to Harvard students over visiting students or fellows.
  • How to Join: Opportunities are promoted in the Harvard Student Bulletin and will also be posted on this page as they become available.

What You’ll Experience

I enjoyed how approachable the professors were and embracing the diverse perspectives shared by representatives from the different schools. - Past Participant
