Summer Institute
The Summer Institute is a fully online educational program offered to undergraduate and graduate students by the Berkman Klein Center. To stay up to date on the Summer Institute's next session, as well as other educational opportunities throughout the year, subscribe to the Center's various newsletters.
Launched in July of 2020, the Summer Institute brought together students from across the world to connect virtually with BKC’s researchers and practitioners and to work on current topics in Internet and society research. Over four weeks, participants engaged in synchronous and asynchronous events, including attending talks and seminars, discussing current research, meeting with BKC community members, and working collaboratively. In small groups, the students produced a final project that informs decision makers about current Internet and society issues.
In its inaugural year, the Summer Institute focused on a key topic within BKC’s work, artificial intelligence (AI) principles and practice. Participants explore specific areas including: AI policy and inclusion, media and content moderation, and guidance for decision makers.
