Myojung Chung is an assistant professor of journalism and media innovation at Northeastern University. Her research focuses on the intersection of digital media, mis/disinformation, and policymaking.
Her research focuses on the intersection of digital media, mis/disinformation, and policymaking. Her particular emphasis lies in understanding the spread and consequences of mis/disinformation and developing effective, holistic countermeasures. Her work has been published in leading social science journals, including New Media & Society, Digital Journalism, Human Communication Research, and Computers in Human Behavior. She has also received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Korea Foundation.
At the Institute for Rebooting Social Media, she will explore the balance between achieving desired outcomes and minimizing unintended side effects of interventions targeting mis/disinformation, with a focus on information justice in the post-truth era. Before entering academia, she worked as a journalist at Yonhap News Agency, South Korea’s leading news outlet, and served as a strategic communication manager in the telecommunication industry. She also has firsthand experience at the UN Headquarters and the Korean National Commission to UNESCO. Currently, she holds advisory roles as a board member at the Harvard Rappaport Institute and a safety council advisory member at Zepeto, a global metaverse company.
