Computing Fantasy: Imagination, Invention, Radical Pedagogy (Munari / Rodari / Calvino) - Spring 2024
Though built around three seminal figures from the 2nd half of the 20th century the artist-designer Bruno Munari, the radical writer-educator Gianni Rodari, the novelist Italo Calvino the course is broadly concerned with the formal logics and generative structures that inform imaginative work, from artistic practice and industrial design to stories and fables. Readings will include Propp’s Morphology of the Folktale as well as later instances of formalism and structuralism. The course will be held in English with all writings available in English translation.
