At a recent panel convened by the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, BKC Affiliate Bruce Schneier spoke on the threats and opportunities presented by governments worldwide adopting AI tools. Schneier "believes AI can make policymaking more responsive and equitable. But first, he said, the systems must be trusted to act as loyal, trustworthy advisers." He noted, too, that observers have already seen governments try and influence AI systems' answers to questions about oppositional governments by flooding the internet with misinformation and propaganda.
