Hiring: Project Coordinator

The Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University seeks two dynamic Project Coordinators to join its growing team. Project Coordinators' primary responsibility will be contributing to the development and execution of a suite of projects on tech policy research and implementation, data governance, and digital identity, all using human rights and social justice lenses. By convening participants across industry, government, civil society, and academia in focused collaboration, the Center is building a portfolio of research, projects, programming, and educational opportunities. Project Coordinators will join the Berkman Klein Center’s world-class community of scholars and practitioners, and work in close collaboration with the Center’s team of staff, fellows, and faculty to advance a range of interdisciplinary, cutting-edge programs and research related to the study and development of Internet & society.

As a Project Coordinator you will: 

  • Provide administrative and operational support to implement academic programs and research activities, including scheduling and organizing meetings, events, and workshops; developing and implementing administrative systems and processes; monitoring overall timelines and outputs; contributing to project deliverables and grant reports; and maintaining online project management tools. 

  • Communicate with and serve as a point of contact for internal and external partners, including students, faculty, and program participants. 

  • Support program communication efforts by collaborating closely with Center staff, including producing basic graphic design for materials, and writing and editing web content, blog posts, memos, and other internal and external documents. 

  • May research and prepare briefing and background materials for educational program sessions, meetings, and events; may supervise interns and research assistants as needed. 

  • Assist with presentations and program facilitation. 

  • Support the creation of program communities and contribute to Institute and Center goals by accomplishing related duties as required. 

Basic Qualifications

Three or more years of related experience. Education beyond high school may count towards experience. 

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong desire to work in the public interest. 

  • Knowledge of or prior work experience with Internet, technology policy, social media related issues, and/or internet research and publishing tools is preferred. 

  • Project management and coordination skills. 

  • Proactive, highly organized, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure.  

  • Effective interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills, including solid writing, editing, and proofreading skills. 

  • Demonstrated focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion and eagerness to prioritize these values within all aspects of work and programming.

  • The ability to work flexibly in both independent and team environments.

Working Conditions

Based on the changing needs of the Center, the project coordinator may be called upon for other tasks at short notice. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Depending on the public health situation, travel opportunities may arise.

This is a term appointment currently expected to end June 30, 2023.
