Should Researchers Be Allowed to Use YouTube Videos and Tweets?

Researchers can use publicly available data from YouTube and Twitter and other sources, often without the consent of users. For example, a new paper from MIT used YouTubers’ voices to guess what they looked like. Are these practices ethical? BKC faculty associate Casey Fiesler weighs in.
