
Joshua Tan leads product and strategy at Public AI, a movement building AI as public infrastructure.
He also leads research at Metagov, a laboratory for engineering institutions. At the Berkman Klein Center, he will build protocols for collaboration and peer production that allow people to build shared AI systems across teams, companies, and countries. Josh's work explores the intersection between artificial and collective intelligence. He completed his PhD and postdoc at Oxford, previously held fellowships at Stanford (at the Digital Civil Society Lab), Princeton (in the CS department), and MIT (in the math department), and taught at Harvard (in the law school) and Carnegie Mellon (in the policy school).
