John Collins is head of Red Flag USA, a global strategic communications consulting firm operating in Washington, DC, Dublin, Brussels, Paris, and London.
John is the former Head of Policy for Coinbase, the world's largest digital currency company, where he led the company's discussions and relationships with governments worldwide. Prior to Coinbase, he served as Senior Professional Staff Member for the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs for Chairman Tom Carper (D-DE). Mr. Collins was the Chairman's primary advisor on emerging issues related to digital currencies and blockchain technology, leading the first Congressional hearing on the subject in the fall of 2013. Mr. Collins served as Campaign Manager for Senator Carper's successful 2012 reelection.
Following his time at Coinbase, John served as Vice President of International Policy for BAFT, a worldwide financial services trade association, overseeing the development and execution of global policy efforts, including around financial technology.
John's focus at Berkman Klein is on developing global public policy frameworks around financial technology, with a specific focus on digital currencies and blockchain technology. He is passionate about driving a democratizing, innovation public policy agenda at both the macro and micro levels.
