Kicking off the 2009-2010 academic year:

courses, job opportunities, open house on Sept. 8, events, and more to come!

Another fall semester is upon us, bringing new courses, challenges, and ways to engage with the Berkman Center formally and informally. Whether you’re new to Cambridge and Harvard, virtual or physical, starting a program at a neighboring school, or an old friend of Berkman, read on to learn what’s afoot at the Center this coming semester. We hope you will join us!

Berkman faculty are teaching a number of Internet-related courses at Harvard this fall, including a new experimental graduate seminar taught by John Palfrey in conjunction with a similar course at Northwestern taught by Eszter Hargittai: Seminar on Research Methods on Internet and Society.

In addition to classes — keep an eye out as coursework and discussions often pop up online! — there are many ways to get involved. To start, there is one available project fellowship and one staff opening:

A list of internship and research assistant opportunities with Berkman projects and people is available from our Get Involved page. The list evolves over time, and positions run the gamut in terms of interests and skills. Information about applying can be found on each individual position listing.

Our Fall Open House will take place at 7PM on September 8. The Berkman faculty directors and others will provide an overview of the research the Center is working on this year, with snacks and drinks to follow.

Finally, our fall event slate is beginning to fill up. Our Tuesday luncheon series kicks off on September 15 with Professor Calestous Juma, and the Director of Education & Scholarly Communications in Microsoft’s External Research division, Lee Dirks, speaks on September 18. Also, later this month, we're hosting a special event of Canada's International Development Research Centre:
Communication and Human Development: The Freedom Connection?
Free and open to the public unless otherwise noted, Berkman events are a great way to join provocative conversations, learn about the issues of the day, stay in the loop. Visit our Events page for more information, and sign up for our Weekly Events email.

Welcome back, students, and welcome, all!
