With Cuts to Federal Funding, How Will Public Media in the U.S. Survive?

The closure of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting will hurt NPR and PBS, but the most immediate and devastating blow will be to the communities that rely on public broadcasting.

BKC Director Martha Minow reflects on how community news outlets have been impacted by the Trump administration's cuts to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Minow points out that the stakes of losing local media are more dire than they might immediately seem, particularly because "those that don't have local news...have decreases in voting and other forms of civic engagement."
