David Weinberger interviewed Sabelo Mhlambi about applying Ubuntu ethics to AI. Mhlambi discussed Ubuntu principles, its origins, and how has been applied in various moments throughout history.
“Ubuntu has a strong commitment to equity and empowerment. That will often mean that the process of building AI will be slow. A process that tries to find fairness and consensus is always going to be slow. But that’s fine. We should be focusing on the dignity of all people affected by the AI being built,” Mhlambi said.
