Stephanie Hankey

Stephanie Hankey is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Tactical Technology Collective, an organization that has worked internationally to help make NGOs, journalists and activists tech-savvy since 2003. She has worked for the past 18 years to build the digital activism capacity of human rights defenders, NGOs and journalists and to advance digital privacy and security within civil society. She is also the co-founder of the creative agency Tactical Studios, the co-curator of the exhibition 'Nervous Systems: Quantified Life and the Social Question' and in 2013 was awarded an Ashoka Fellowship for her work as a social entrepreneur.

By training, Stephanie is a technologist and a designer with a Master of Arts from the Royal College of Art in London. As well as running Tactical Tech, she currently writes and teaches on technology, data, ethics and design and consults for theater, exhibitions and television on 'the politics of data'. Stephanie is currently working on two projects; one researching the relationship between mass data collection, political campaigning and elections, and the other investigating the relationship between the mass collection of data and the shrinking space of civil society.
