James is a partner at Purpose. His work focuses on the application of online technology for collective action and behavior change. He is currently developing projects that aim to shift large-scale consumer demand towards more sustainable and socially valuable forms of economic activity.
James's background is in science, business strategy and social impact. He holds a PhD in Physics from Cornell, where he conducted experiments on high temperature superconductivity, developing new image analysis techniques. He also consulted at McKinsey & Co, advising business, public and social sector clients, including managing a team supporting development of the Australian National Broadband Network. Other recent projects include co-authoring the book Climate Change and Australia, and developing a new approach to online social music discovery. James is based out of New York.
