Good Faith Collaboration: The Culture of Wikipedia

Berkman fellow Joseph Reagle returned to Cambridge this fall with a book on the verge of publication — and his extensive ethnography of Wikipedia is now out, from MIT Press!

The preface, first chapter, and critical apparatus are available online, along with a foreword by Professor Lessig and an interview with opensource.com:

Good Faith Collaboration: The Culture of Wikipedia

Wikipedia's style of collaborative production has been lauded, lambasted, and satirized. Despite unease over its implications for the character (and quality) of knowledge, Wikipedia has brought us closer than ever to a realization of the century-old pursuit of a universal encyclopedia. Good Faith Collaboration: The Culture of Wikipedia is a rich ethnographic portrayal of Wikipedia's historical roots, collaborative culture, and much debated legacy.

We hope that you will join the Berkman community in congratulating Joseph -- and will join us on October 19 for a talk about the book.
