Berkman's Hiring - Digital Media Producer

Coming off Berkman's tenth anniversary and heading into our university-widefuture, we're augmenting our team and capacity, including expanding and improving our non-text-based media, for which we're seeking a full-time digital media producer to contribute the brain and technical brawn to help rethink and beef up our efforts in this area. It's an amazing opportunity for the right person -- joining the Center's energetic, hardworking, and fun communications, community, and events crew at the molten core of all things Berkman.

Duties And Responsibilities: The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University seeks a producer to conceive, create, and sustain our diverse and expanding efforts to make and curate compelling media; to thoughtfully streamline production processes for "talking head" materials, and to propose and execute media projects that take us beyond that in form and venue; and to share your editorial vision, production chops, collaboration skills, distribution savvy, and project management excellence. This newly established position, in coordination with the communications, technology and events teams, plans and executes the creation of vibrant Berkman explorations, conversations and events in diverse forms and formats. Helps Berkman to realize our commitment to cast off the shackles of proximity, and to share our research widely, creatively, and effectively. Efficiently captures, edits, and disseminates video and audio works. Trains, assists, and manages media production interns and freelance producers. Interacts closely with faculty, fellows, staff, students, and community. Determines and executes relevant placement of media pieces online and in traditional media outlets. Works with tech team to curate the media archive on a day-to-day and long-term basis, and to determine technological needs in support of media production and storage. Additional duties as needed. Some weekend and evening work is required. Full-time position through June 30, 2009, with continuation contingent on business need and funding, as with all Berkman appointments.

Additional Qualifications: BA strongly preferred. Mastery of recording, editing, producing, and managing media for large and small events; and creating original and captivating issue-based media. Solid understanding of new/social media, and the tools that support them, including encoding media to standard web file formats (QuickTime, Flash Video, BitTorrent), HTML and Drupal, video and audio production systems (Final Cut Pro, Logic Studio Pro). Digital imaging, graphic design, and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and similar programs are a plus. Must be able to prioritize (and be flexible when needs shift), possess superior project and relationship management skills, be a self-starter, and have a professional demeanor. Strong communication skills, judgment, and vision are essential. Ability to manage multiple processes, priorities, and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Ability to coordinate, motivate, and collaborate with faculty, fellows, staff, students, and others. Sense of humor!
