4/17 FCC Stanford Hearing: Public Comments Welcome

More information about the next week's Federal Communications Commission en banc hearing is making the rounds.

Next Thursday, April 17th, Stanford Law School's Center for Internet & Society (CIS) will host the merry band of commissioners for their second hearing on broadband network management practices.

At the first hearing, held here in February, the commissioners heard two panels of experts speak about the policy and technological perspectives on the subject and the public was allowed to submit written or video testimony.  This go-round features a two hour block reserved for public comments.

"We're particularly glad that the FCC is including an open comment session so users will have the opportunity to present their views directly before the Commission," CIS's executive director Lauren Gelman said.

If you're in the Bay Area, you can take in this round of panels - on Network Management and Consumer Expectations, and Consumer Access to Emerging Internet Technologies & Applications - and as well voice your thoughts.  Rarely is the full Commission on hand to hear directly from the public; no matter your persuasion,  it's a fantastic opportunity to observe and take part of the rulemaking process.  As well, on the ground groups have organized pre-hearing community workshops to discuss the issues in preparation.

More information about the hearing, including times and directions, can be found here.
