Give One Get One - XO Laptops Abound and Abroad!

The production lines have begun to roll, and the multiplication can't be stopped.

This past Monday, One Laptop per Child began their "Give One Get One" program.  Until the 26th of this month, and for the first time ever, people in the United States and Canada can purchase one of OLPC's magic XO machines for themselves, and in turn have one sent to a child across the globe.  From their site:

For a donation of $399, one XO laptop will be sent to empower a child in a developing nation and one will be sent to the child in your life in recognition of your contribution. $200 of your donation is tax-deductible (your $399 donation minus the fair market value of the XO laptop you will be receiving).

For all U.S. donors who participate in the Give One Get One program, T-Mobile is offering one year of complimentary HotSpot access. Find out more.

All of the research that has gone on down the street from us and abroad will soon be underneath the fingers, and within the minds of, people filled with wonder and promise.  Nicholas Negroponte, founder and chairman of OLPC, keynoted our 2007 Internet & Society Conference, speaking to the development and influence of the XOs - on individuals and communities, on regions and the world, on technological breakthroughs, on the market of laptops, and more.  You can see his May talk, given in the gear-up to the XOs' mass release, here.

You can read more about the boundless potential for OLPC over at their site, and for 13 more days you join folks like Berkman fellows Jake Shapiro and Ethan Zuckerman in getting two XO machines through "Give One Get One".
