Two New Tools for Political Transparency

Our friends at the Sunlight Foundation recently pointed out two great new tools for making American politics and government more transparent.  One comes from Sunlight grantee Maplight.org and the other from the Sunlight project OpenCongress.

Maplight.org, whose main objective is to highlight the "connections between money and politics," has just developed the Presidential Fundraising Widget, which allows you to insert - on your website - a visual display of the total dollars raised by any of the Presidential candidates.  You can also customize the widget to show as many or as few candidates as you like in a number of ways.

The latest development from OpenCongress, is a different set of widgets for your site.  These inserts have the ability to monitor specific legislation in Congress, or issue areas of your choice as they do or don't find their way through the process.  OpenCongress has a number of other tools that you should check out as well.

Congress returns from Summer District Work Period on Tuesday, so make sure you have the tools ready to follow the progress of your candidates, bills, and areas of interest ready to go.
