Attorney General Controversy Discussed

After the announcement this morning, by U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales that he will be stepping down next month from the post he has held since February of 2005, we thought back to this past Spring when the Berkman Clinical Program in Cyberlaw sponsored a panel discussion on the firing of eight U.S. Attorneys - an issue that has plagued the Department of Justice since early this year.

Panelists for the event, also sponsored by the Office of Public Interest Advising's Heyman Fellowship Program, included: Professor David Barron of Harvard Law School; Ari Shapiro, Justice Reporter, Washington Desk, National Public Radio; Stuart Gerson, former Acting Attorney General and former Assistant Attorney General, Civil Division, DOJ; Bud Cummins, former US Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas (2001-2006), and Elliot Mincberg, Chief Counsel for Oversight and Investigations, House Judiciary Committee.

The discussion was moderated by James Flug, Senior Heyman Fellow in Residence and Covington & Burling Distinguished Visitor and Lecturer on Law, Harvard Law School.

Audio of the event is available on MediaBerkman and thanks to Clinical Students Aaron Perez-Daple, Sheila Gogate, and Nick Bramble we also have an extensive event wiki cataloging the resources and timing of the controversy.
