Campaigns Moving Far Beyond Their Websites

E-campaigning is now forcing political candidates into a whole new type of race, that is becoming more and more important with each passing election cycle.  The proliferation of tools and resources available to voters with Internet access has increased substantially and the Sunlight Foundation, working with the Center for Media & Democracy have provided the latest forum for this candid view, Congresspedia.

Congresspedia is a collection of politically-related wikis, "designed to shine more light on the workings of the U.S. Congress."  Much like its inspiration, Wikipedia, the site maintains itself through editors with the expressed goal of neutral definitions and unbiased reporting.

New Scientist Magazine recently took a look at this new resource, as well as others that have helped transform the landscape of campaigns.  Sunlight Foundation's National Director and Berkman Alum Zephyr Teachout, points out in the article that these tools "go beyond the message that a candidate chooses to use;" and with that, hopefully make the electorate better educated on the issues and those they cast their vote for.
