Fair Use in Film Gets Latest Boost

Capitalizing on the momentum that fair use in film garnered earlier this month, our colleagues at the Stanford Center for Internet & Society combined the efforts of their "Fair Use Project" with a film insurance company and legal representation to further the cause of documentary filmmakers.

Together they hope to take the "best practices" for documentary film makers, drafted by the American University Center for Social Media with the Washington College of Law, and provide pro bono or reduced-cost legal defense for those filmmakers who find themselves facing improper lawsuits for copyright violation.

Stanford Center for Internet & Society Founder Larry Lessig calls this development "the most important announcement" in his 10 years working on these issues.
