Placeblogging in America

Placeblogger, a directory and aggregator of local community-focused blogs across America, launched on January 1. Placeblogger is a project of H2otown's Lisa Williams, with the Berkman-affiliated Center for Citizen Media and PressThink.

As Lisa explains, "A placeblog is an act of sustained attention to a particular place over time." It may have journalistic elements, but a placeblog isn't trying to replicate a local newspaper. Instead, Lisa says, "They're about the lived experience of a place. That experience may be news, or it may simply be about that part of our lives that isn't news but creates the texture of our daily lives...."

You can read more reactions to Placeblogger from the Boston Globe, Jay Rosen at PressThink, and Dan Kennedy at Media Nation. Then check out Placeblogger to find the placeblogs in your own community!
