Stopbadware Report Releases

StopBadware.org, the Berkman Center's consumer-oriented project that is working to find collaborative solutions to the badware problem, has just released three new reports.  This series of reports highlights two examples of "nagware," or applications that exists for no other purpose than to nag users into purchasing the full version of their software.

From the Stopbadware blog:

We’ve finished up another round of reports that look at three pieces of badware: FunCade, UnSpyPC, and WinFixer. The last two seemed quite similar to SpyAxe, in that they don’t appear to serve any useful function beyond persuading users to download a full version of their “anti-spyware” software. Unfortunately, their definitions of “spyware” seem to include legitimate software such as HijackThis (for WinFixer) and VMWare, WinPatrol, and Windows Defender (for UnSpyPC).  Click here to continue reading.
