"The Future Digital Economy"

The Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) will be holding a major conference titled "The Future Digital Economy: Digital Content -- Creation, Distribution and Access" today and tomorrow in Rome.  The Conference is part of the OECD's ongoing study and analysis of the current status of and future projections for the digital economy, which is culminated in a series of detailed reports.  Among the anticipated major themes of the discussion are: the changes in content production, distribution, and use associated with the digital economy; the challenges posed to commercial industries for the development of business models to market digital content goods and services; and government's appropriate regulatory response for the promotion of competition on the digitally-based market while protecting the interests of consumers.

If you are interested in questions concerning digital media, please check out the conference's "background reading," which includes reports on music, scientific publishing, the online computer and video game industry, and mobile content.  Berkman's own Digital Media Project Team was involved in the composition of the OECD Digital Music Study (see here).

In today's SwissInfo Berkman Faculty Fellow and OECD panel chair, Urs Gasser, was interviewed Q&A style regarding the conference and ongoing digital media debates.   Click here to read the interview.
