Global Voices - Open Positions

Global Voices Online (GV) is a non-profit global citizens’ media project, co-founded by Rebecca MacKinnon and Ethan Zuckerman and sponsored by the Berkman Center.

MANAGING EDITOR: GV announced the search for a Managing Editor late last year.  In the next 24 hours, GV will stop accepting applications and will begin to make decisions.

REGIONAL EDITORS: GV would like to expand its Regional Editor team.  Some of the current regions will be split. GV is seeking editors to help cover the following regions: Northeast Asia (Greater China, Japan, Korea) and Russia/Eastern Europe.

Preference goes to people from those regions. Ability to speak at least one language from the region is a must.

Regional Editors contribute 5-10 links to the middle “global roundups” sections each weekday, and also help to recruit and manage a team of volunteer bloggers from their region to contribute to the left-hand column of the blog. For this they receive very modest financial compensation.

BLOGGER-TRANSLATORS: GV is looking for strong bilingual bloggers who can provide several posts per week summarizing blogger conversations and translating key paragraphs from blogospheres writing in the languages listed below. Each blogger-translator would also make him/herself available to help bring in news from their blogosphere in response to major breaking stories and issues (for instance, if there’s a terrorist attack in Russia, a timely post on what Russian language blogs are saying, etc.) These people would be coordinating their work with the relevant Regional Editors.

GV has a budget to modestly compensate bloggers who can commit to consistently and reliably devoting several hours each week to bridge blogosphere conversations into English on the Global Voices site from the following languages: Chinese; Arabic; Persian/Farsi; Russian; and French.

If you are interested in helping GV with any of the above, please email gvjobs AT gmail.com, making clear in the e-mail subject line which position you’re interested in, plus the specific language and/or region. In the body of your email please include a link to your blog and a paragraph describing who you are, what you do, and why you’re interested. If GV requires more information from you beyond that, they'll let you know. For all positions, only bloggers will be considered.
