Battle of the Bundles

Berkman Affiliate Susie Lindsay reports again from the National Association of Television Program Executives Conference in Las Vegas to explain that telecom service providers are engaged in a fight to get bits to customers. A panel of industry experts argued that cable and satellite companies have a major lead in this fight, but will need to provide consumers with wireless and VoIP to beat out telcos who are entering the world of distribution of programming. Ted Schaefer, partner at Price Waterhouse Coopers, said that telcos such as Verizon are planning “fiber-to-the-home” initiatives. Oxygen president Lisa Gersh Hall said that increasingly cable companies are producing and investing more in original programming -- a shift which has caused revenue to rise.
