Conference Afterthoughts: Blogs and the Media

A number of attendees of last week's conference, Blogging, Journalism & Credibility, have posted afterthoughts and reviews of the discussion on their websites and blogs. ZDNet's David Berlind described the power of viral marketing on the internet, based on a first-hand experience at the conference. After he mentioned to several participants that he had posted photographs of the conference on Flickr, webstats to his photo site spiked to 240 views. As Berlind argues, in a time when "circulation" is being replaced with "eyeballs," this type of internet-based word of mouth could be a powerful asset for web-publishing.

Berkman Fellow David Weinberger collected some of his favorite reactions to the conference on this blog post. And Executive Director John Palfrey argued on his blog that the conference made some progress toward agreement between journalists and bloggers, "but not frankly all that much progress. We're certainly a long way from a shared set of principles, or a code of ethics, or even an understanding of how they could come about." Check the complete conference blog list for other reactions. (Thanks to David Weinberger for the photo.)
