Cyberscholars, Unite

Tonight, the Harvard-Yale Cyberscholar Working Group, a group of academics and internet experts, are meeting at the Berkman Center to discuss and debate two new research inquiries related to cyberlaw. The Berkman Center's Derek Slater will present the latest paper released by the Digital Media Project, Content and Control, which analyzes four emerging business models for digital media distribution, from Apple's iTunes to innovative projects like entertainment "co-ops." The paper considers how policymakers' decisions will affect the different models, user freedoms, and business. Shay David, a PhD Candidate at Cornell University, presents his research on demystifying open sources licenses (OSLs). His research points to ways in which existing OSLs could "better accommodate the competing needs of different would-be innovators that have diverse motivations for writing software."
