Now Underway: Conference on the Internet's Effect on Politics

Today at Harvard Law School, the Berkman Center's conference, Votes, Bits & Bytes, examines different ways in which the internet has affected politics. This morning's panelists offered different viewpoints about technology's effect on citizenship. Pippa Norris, Professor at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, shared her research on elections in the UK where postal ballots, not e-voting, boosted turnout dramatically. Hossein Derakhshan -- aka Hoder, the well-known Iranian blogger, shared his views about blogs' ability to effect social and cultural change in Iran. Politics, he argued, could follow.
