Trading Privacy for a Speedy Check-In

The Transportation Security Administration recently launched a new program called Registered Traveler, which would allow customers who fly from certain cities to exchange personal information such as phone numbers and iris scans for access to a faster check-in process. The voluntary program, which is currently in user testing, has some privacy and legal experts concerned. As Berkman Fellow Derek Bambauer explains, "I am concerned about transparency and accountability." Given TSA's track record on implementing a consistent shoe policy for airport check-in, there seems to be ample reason for caution.
