Iranian Government Blocks Porn and Politics

A new study from the Open Net Initiative has mapped out a broad range of Internet censorship by the government of Iran. Last year, a spokesperson for Iran's culture ministry told CNN that he had no knowledge of censorship for religious or political websites.  But the ONI report indicates that blocking occurs across a range of blogs, political sites, commercial sites, and proxy or annonymizing sites, though clear patterns of censorship are difficult to identify. For example, the Persian page of Voice of America is blocked inside Iran but the English version of VoA is accessible.
