International IP and Indigenous Cultures

As part of its ongoing lecture series, Harvard's Journal of Law and Technology will feature Gavin Clarkson, Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Law, speaking about "Mechanisms for Fair and Equitable Compensation in an International IP Regime."  As Clarkson argues, current intellectual property regimes do not protect indigenous traditional knowledge or indigenous practices, despite the economic value of such knowledge and practices, and their critical importance to health care in developing countries.  Professor Clarkson will discuss the framework of this debate and present an information economics based model for its resolution.  The event will take place on Thursday (April 22) at 6:00pm in Pound 201.
