Beware of Reactionary Copyright Laws, Report Advises

The public-policy center that helped shape the Marshall Plan in the late 1940s, the Committee for Economic Development (CED), issued a new report today advising against changes in copyright law that would undermine the public domain and stifle innovation.  While the threat of digital piracy might create the temptation to pass more restrictive copyright laws, the report cautions that such legal changes would prove detrimental to users and creative development in the long-run.  The alternative?  "The ultimate solutions to the problem of digital piracy are new business models."  Read more about the study and The New York Times' report on the piece.
