Berkman Center Launches Digital Media Project, Multi-Year Grant from MacArthur Foundation

After a year of laying a foundation in digital media research in conjunction with research partner and supporter Gartner|G2, the Berkman Center proudly launches today its Digital Media Project. Newly supported by a $600,000 grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the project is also sponsored in part by Gartner|G2 and the Open Society Institute of the Soros Foundation. The project will continue to be focused on analysis of five possible future scenarios for digital media. Newly expanded areas of analysis will include more in-depth economic and business modeling, as well as continued legal analysis and consideration of consumer perception and behavior data. The Digital Media Project's starting point is set forth in a white paper produced with Gartner|G2. Concurrently, Professor William Fisher is writing a book, Promises to Keep on similar issues, forthcoming this Spring. Each of the Berkman Center faculty, as well as numerous staff, fellows and students, are involved in the Digital Media Project. Core team members at the Berkman Center include Executive Director John Palfrey and Fellow Urs Gasser, with the team to expand substantially in coming months.
