Zittrain and Edelman Release Site Finder Research

Technical Responses to Unilateral Internet Authority: The Deployment of VeriSign "Site Finder" and ISP Response was released today by Professor Jonathan Zittrain and Berkman Student Fellow Ben Edelman. Introduced last month, Site Finder is a controversial modification to the Internet's domain name system, provoking criticism for unanticipated effects on web browsing, email, and numerous automated systems.  But network operators who dislike the service have tools with which to stop it, and the service has been disabled in most of China, at Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom, and at Korea's DACOM, among others.  Research documents additional networks disabling Site Finder, and analyzes trends in the service's usage.
