Edge Case Guidelines

If you want to present an edge case, read these brief guidelines, copy the text from the edge case template and create your own edge case page. If your edge case is called "Making Fair Trade in Africa with Cell Phones", then you might create a page called "edge-cases/fair-trade-and-cell-phones-in-africa".

If you need a hand, drop Zak a line.

5 Minutes or Less

  • You have only five minutes to present your edge case, but expect that people will want to ask questions afterwards.
  • Keep your presentation tight and be prepared to discuss it further in the breakout groups after the main session.

Important Stuff First

  • Don't set the stage for four minutes, and then try to lift the curtain the last minute.
  • Tell people what the edge case what it is and why it matters in the first minute, then explain why the case is even more important than they expected in the remaining four.

Be Prepared

  • Practice on your friends, family and peers.
  • Create a page for your edge case (as noted at the top of this page) and fill it in.
  • Upload your slides (if any) in PDF format to the wiki.

Publish References in the Wiki

  • People will want to know more and they won't be able to take in all the details.
  • Make sure to put up supporting materials on the wiki page for your edge case so that we can research later.

Break the Guidelines

  • Need to do things differently? Go for it!
  • Just make sure to still be prepared and to publish reference materials on the wiki.
