Opportunity: Part-Time Research Assistants - The Institute for Rebooting Social Media
Research Assistants (RAs) will support one of the Institute’s 2023-24 Visiting Scholars based on their skill set and experience. We are particularly interested in hiring students with one or more of the following backgrounds:
- Law and governance
- Platform regulation
- Computational social science/data science, specifically social media scraping, social network analysis, and content and sentiment analysis
- Social media/influencer studies
- Foreign relations
RAs may also have the opportunity to contribute to new and ongoing projects for the scholars, and the Institute more broadly, as they arise.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Depending on specific projects, research needs, and backgrounds, RAs may be asked to collaborate with their Visiting Scholar on the following:
- Conducting statistical analyses and quantitative research
- Conducting literature reviews
- Conducting legal research
- Identifying and tracking user and regulatory responses to specific social media-related incidents over time
- Performing social media, social network and content analysis
- Transcribing interviews and select/secure applicable quotes
- Writing memos on case law
Ideal candidates will be self-starters who are motivated to support visiting scholars in their research. Experience with content creation, particularly on TikTok, is a plus.
ELIGIBILITY & ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements in order to be considered for an RA role:
- Actively enrolled Harvard University student
- Able to work in remote and/or hybrid format
- Able to commit up to 5-10 hours per week
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
The University’s standard rate for RA positions is $21.00/hour. No other benefits are provided.
