Non-Technical - BKC AI Workstreams Intern

The Berkman Klein Center seeks research assistants in Summer 2026 to support work on machine learning and artificial intelligence. In the upcoming year, BKC will be diving further into projects related to the ethics and governance of artificial intelligence; agentic AI protocols and risk mitigations; AI interpretability;  battles for control of digital property; privacy frameworks; the roles of intermediaries within Internet architecture; and the useful and unobtrusive deployment of technology in education.

Tasks may include literature reviews of AI research, literature reviews, dataset creation, model evaluation, and drafting AI research papers. Projects which BKC will be exploring will focus on the following general thematic areas – 

  • Reconciling Expert AI Perspectives
  • Benchmarking Computational Systems Beyond Intelligence
  • Model Interpretability
  • Agentic AI Protocols and Risk Mitigations 
  • AI’s Impact on the Human Experience

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field (computer science, policy, law or similar), or have relevant work experience 
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Project management experience
  • Digital law/policy or technical experience is strongly favored
