AI Workstreams Research Assistant
Part-time, 5 - 20 hours per week (based on availability and programmatic need)

The Berkman Klein Center seeks research assistants in Fall 2025 to support work on machine learning and artificial intelligence. In the upcoming year, BKC will be diving further into projects related to related to the ethics and governance of artificial intelligence; agentic AI protocols and risk mitigations; battles for control of digital property; privacy frameworks; the roles of intermediaries within Internet architecture; and the useful and unobtrusive deployment of technology in education.
Tasks may include activities such as literature reviews of AI research, software development, dataset creation, model training, model evaluation, and drafting AI research papers. Projects which BKC will be exploring will focus on the following general thematic areas –
- Reconciling Expert AI Perspectives
- Benchmarking Computational Systems Beyond Intelligence
- Model Interpretability
- Agentic AI Protocols and Risk Mitigations
- AI’s Impact on the Human Experience
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field, or have relevant work experience
- For technical projects:
- AI experience beyond using a model through an API
- Software development experience
- Comfort balancing academic course requirements and research project deliverables
- Interest in both the technology and its societal implications
Additional Information:
- To be eligible for this position, you must be actively enrolled as a student at Harvard University.
- Compensation is the standard rate for Harvard students in RA positions of $21/hour.
- This role will be part-time, 5 - 20 hours per week (based on availability and programmatic need)
- This position will begin mid-September (approximately 9/15 based on availability and programmatic need)
