AI Ethics and Governance

With the incorporation of AI across industries, questions about the ethical implications of using these tools have become mainstream. This panel discussion will bring in prominent business and technical leaders in this space to explore the ongoing ethical debates through a business-oriented lens.

This event is moderated by Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative Fellow Paulo Carvão with support from the Institute for Rebooting Social Media.

It will be held at the Berkman Klein Center (room 515) from 12pm-1pm ET. Lunch will be served! In-person attendance is limited to Harvard ID holders, but the general public is invited to attend virtually via Zoom.

MODERATOR
Paulo Carvão is a Global Technology Executive with a record of leading large businesses at IBM, where he was a senior leadership team member until 2022. Since then, he has acted as a strategic advisor for technology and go-to-market issues and is a Venture Capital Limited Partner and investment committee member. During his Social Impact fellowship at the Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative, Paulo will focus on the intersection of technology and democracy.

PANELISTS
Christina Montgomery is the Chief Privacy & Trust Officer for IBM, overseeing the company’s privacy program and directing all aspects of IBM’s privacy policies. She also chairs IBM’s AI Ethics Board. A global leader in AI Ethics and governance, Christina is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce AI Commission, a member of the United States’ National AI Advisory Committee (NAIAC) established in 2022 to advise the President and the National AI Initiative office, an Advisory Board Member of the Future of Privacy Forum (FPF), Advisory Council Member of the Center for Information Policy Leadership (CIPL), and a member of the AI Governance Advisory Board for the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

John Fiske is the Director of Data Protection at Meta, where he focuses on issues around privacy, including fairness and accountability, managing some of the most pressing privacy, data protection and AI safety challenges in the world today Before Meta, he served as a Vice President at SAP. Fiske is currently a Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School’s Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government researching and exploring the implications of identity assurance as a safeguard against AI online harms.
